Shettleston Housing Association Offices Glasgow
(work undertaken while at Elder and Cannon)
This project involved the adaptive restoration of a former cooperative hall to form the operational headquarters for this active and growing housing association. The new build was designed to sit alongside the existing building; paying respect to its built form and scale but using modern materials of portland precast concrete and curtain walling to juxtapose with the historic red sandstone edifice.
Internally the accommodation provides a public-facing reception, private one-on-one meeting rooms and the administrative facilities to support this organisation in its vital work in a deprived area of Glasgow.
Works within the existing building involved the careful creation of a mezzanine and meeting facility beneath the beautiful vaulted ceiling of the cooperative hall, which had been covered up by various previous insensitive adaptations made over time.
