Fishermans House St Ives
We undertook scoping designs for internal alterations and a hidden rooftop-extension to this charming B-listed former fisherman’s cottage in the heart of St Ives, Cornwall
The existing house is exceedingly small, and certain parts of it have fallen into disrepair, including the slate roof. The accommodation is L-shaped and is clustered around a small and underused internal courtyard. Our proposals sought to bring this sun-spot into everyday use and to bring the standards of the living spaces up to a modern level, including installing a new kitchen the central apex, which fed the adjacent living and dining areas.
Upstairs, the three bedrooms are presently afforded one ensuite bathroom, so proposals also indicated how sanitary provision could be bettered. An option was also developed indicating how a further ‘room in the roof’ might be achieved, with fabulous views over the rooftops of the town as it cascades down towards the picturesque harbour below.
